Bricks and Planks
Out of the two textures, I absolutely love how the wood texture came out and how realistic the wood grain looks. The only problem is that I underestimated how thick the small size brushes would be, which resulted in the panel lining and brick shading being too thick. On the bright side, I feel like the thick panel lines on the wood help to better hide the fact that the wood grain is just a single connected pattern. For the wood grain, we used an old flat brush that had the bristles cut in even sections of the brush in a similar fashion to the “teeth” on a castle wall. We used the brush to apply black paint in wobbly strokes to give to make the grain of the wood, a watered down coat of medium brown was then applied so it would dry transparent, making the black grain turn dark brown for a better wood look. I also like the texture on the bricks and love how no one brick is the exact same color surface as any of the other ones. This painting now lives on one of the walls in the stairwell of my apartment as nice little bit of color on an otherwise blank white wall.
